Home Send Your Letters Add A Local Soldier Contact Us

There are a number of people, either residents of Pickens County or family/friends of our residents that have answered the call of our nation's leaders. Whether they are serving their country here in the States or abroad, two things are certain… they are not here and we miss them! Because of that, the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce and Ronnie Mills, developer of Jordan 's Crossing, want to do something for our Service Men and Women to let them know that we are thinking about them and look forward to their safe return.

We want every person, business and organization to participate! To be part of this project we ask that you submit an unsealed letter, either handwritten or typed, plain paper or letterhead, to the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce. Because the letter will be photocopied and sent to all the Service Men and Women on our list, the letter should start, “Dear Service Men and Women.”  Also, we want to send pictures from home. The pictures could be of local landmarks, buildings, scenery, etc. What we are most looking for though are pictures of smiling faces… residents, employees, and school children holding up signs that show the Service Men and Women that we care.

If you are interesting in being a part of this project we ask that you do the following; Bring your unsealed letters to the Chamber of Commerce. We have a couple sample letters online for you to use as a guideline for writing your own letters. We do ask that the letters be addressed to no one person or group, only to ensure your loved ones privacy. You can also email your pictures and letters to letters@pickenshometownheroes.com.

We are going to be taking pictures of our landmarks and rounding up letters from the community to send to our troops. We encourage you to fly your flags, and in addition come by the chamber and purchase a “We Support Our Hometown Heroes” yard sign and drop off your letters of appreciation. Send in pictures of smiling faces, showing your support (holding up the signs, banners, flags, etc.) and if we catch your yard sign or flag proudly displayed we'll take a picture and send it to local troops to honor and support them, as the work they do is hard, and sometimes a piece of home is all it takes to make one smile.
